Hello and welcome to my little traveler’s corner of the internet!

I’m so excited to share my journey as a children’s missioner living abroad.

I spend my days working with children in a developing country, and while this life is full of purpose, adventure, and fulfillment, it’s also one that comes with its fair share of challenges.

I’ll be using this space to talk about the ups and downs of living far away from family and friends, navigating life in a third-world or developing country, and the realities of being an expat. These are things that you often don’t see behind the glossy photos or inspiring stories. Being away from home for long periods can be lonely, and learning how to adapt to a completely different culture requires patience, humility, and a lot of grace.

This space is where I’ll document the realities of life as a missioner—both the hard days and the moments of joy.

If you’ve ever wondered what life is like working in a developing country, or if you’re an expat yourself looking for solidarity and inspiration, I hope this blog becomes a source of encouragement. Together, we can celebrate the beauty of this life while also acknowledging the sacrifices it demands!

So, grab a cup of coffee (or tea!), and join me on this journey. There’s so much to discover, and I can’t wait to share it all with you!

Embracing the Journey:

Life, Love + Lessons as a Missioner Abroad

  • Challenges as a Missioner

One of the hardest parts of this journey is being so far from the people I love. Birthdays, holidays, and everyday moments with family and friends are missed, and those feelings of isolation sometimes hit hard.

However, the children I work with and the incredible communities I’m surrounded by are a constant reminder of the bigger purpose driving me. It’s easy to give everything we have to the people we serve, but this can also lead to compassion fatigue, something I’ve had to learn to manage.

Self-care has become an essential part of my routine, and I’ll be sharing how I find moments of rest and joy in the midst of the demands of mission work.

  • Living and Navigating a Developing Country

Adapting to life in a developing country has been an adventure in itself. From the language barriers to figuring out how to cook and shop for groceries without some of the conveniences I once took for granted, every day brings something new to navigate.

Things that may seem simple, like shopping for groceries or finding transportation, can sometimes be a challenge here, but those same challenges have made me resourceful and more connected with the local culture.

I’ll also be talking about the small wins — like discovering items I packed that have been incredibly helpful (think solar-powered lights or lemongrass essential oil to deter mosquitos) and the fun moments of adjusting my wardrobe for life here.

Being an expat in a country with limited resources means you get creative, and I’m excited to share some of my favorite outfit inspirations and practical tips for anyone in similar circumstances.

  • Travel, Exploration, and Growth

One of the beautiful parts of this journey has been the opportunity to travel to places I’d only dreamed of. Whether it’s a bustling market in the city or a serene landscape off the beaten path, each new location offers a deeper understanding of the world and the people I’m serving. Through this blog, I’ll take you along on some of my favorite travel adventures, sharing tips and stories from the road.

Another part of living 8,000 miles from home is getting to occasionally stay longer in the countries where I stop between flights! I am already the biggest fan of Amsterdam (and the airport there!) and am excited to hopefully soon spend more time in Europe!
